ActionAid Karnataka Projects (AKP) undertakes a broad range of initiatives to address pressing social challenges and enhance community well-being across India. We are committed to eradicating poverty and enhancing quality of life through targeted interventions across various sectors. Our initiatives are deeply rooted in community engagement and aim to provide holistic support, addressing immediate needs while encouraging long-term resilience and growth.
Ongoing Initiatives
Women & Girls Empowerment
We believe gender equality is integral to eradicating poverty and are dedicated to advancing the status of women and girls. AKP’s work on women and girls’ empowerment focuses on advancing gender equality and social justice through grassroots interventions. Our activities include encouraging education and economic empowerment, creating awareness and advocating for women’s rights. We also engage in community mobilisation to challenge discriminatory practices and promote the active participation of women and girls in decision-making processes.
We value education and protection of the rights of children as a vital part of ensuring a bright and sustainable future for them. AKP’s work on children’s education and protection aims to ensure that all children have access to quality education and are safeguarded from abuse and exploitation. We work to provide educational resources and support, and promote child rights. Our initiatives also include creating child friendly spaces that are specially designed environments that offer children a safe, supportive, and nurturing refuge during times of crisis or emergency.
Children’s Education & Protection
Labour and Livelihood
AKP focuses on improving economic opportunities and working conditions for marginalized communities by capacity building, promoting fair labour practices, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. We seek to promote and create public awareness about welfare schemes and facilitate access to resources that help vulnerable communities, particularly women. By building capacity on issues such as poverty, gender equality, and livelihood opportunities, we aim to equip communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively navigate socio-economic challenges and improve their quality of life.
AKP’s climate resilience efforts focus on helping vulnerable communities adapt to the impacts of climate change. In India, those most affected are people who rely on natural resources and processes, such as agriculturalists, pastoralists, fisherfolk, hunters, and foragers. Informal workers, especially those working outdoors, also face severe risks, with heatwave conditions making their occupations life-threatening. These groups, predominantly from Dalit and tribal communities, are already socially and economically marginalized. Our work aims to raise awareness among these vulnerable communities thereby building local capacities to manage environmental challenges and enhance resilience through community-driven solutions.
Climate Resilience
Emergency Response
AKP’s emergency response is dedicated to providing immediate aid and support during crises, such as natural disasters and pandemics. We focus on delivering essential relief services, including food, shelter, and medical care, while also working to strengthen community resilience. Our emergency response efforts aim to ensure rapid and effective assistance to affected populations and support their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
